Winston Maguire Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Brother, father, grandpa and uncle Winston, Pokanikapi Maguire , on May 17, 2025, after a brief stay in palliative care in Vulcan. Winston was born on April 14, 1940 at the old Blackfoot Hospital in Siksika. He received his education at Old Sun Residential School. Where he participated in track and field and loved his long-distance running. In Winston’s early years he worked as a farmer for his uncles the Brass family. He was also a dedicated hard working fire fighter many years. Winston had a love for sports especially for hockey, he loved to be on the ice, and traveling for the love of the game. Winston was a very kind, humble, comical and friendly to those he met near and far and he left a smile on everyone’s face. Winston was a strong caring man and put his family above all else, his son and grandchildren were his pride and joy, he supported them in everything they did and was their biggest cheerleader. He had a great relationship with Marie the mother of his son, and they worked well to co parent their son and grandchildren. Winston had wealth of knowledge of the Siksikaitsiapi ways of living, he shared with the family and to those who reached out to him.
Winston is survived by his son Windsor Nicolas and step Daughter Ann-Lynn Crow Child, grandchildren Dakota, Trinity, Maria and his best friend Marie Nicolas. His siblings, sisters Judy (Robert) Running Rabbit, Elsie Maguire, Liz Scout; brothers Noel and Marvin Maguire, also his numerous nieces and nephews, whom he was very close too. Winston was predeceased by his parents Ivy and Felix Maguire, sisters Grace and Debbie, brothers Ross and Frank. Winston also leaves to mourn his many relatives from the Maguire, Turning Robe, Brass, Breaker, Axe, Scout, Rabbit Carrier, Strangling Wolf, Stimson, Raw Eater, Creighton, Eagle Bear, Back Fat, Stevens, Water Chief, Low Horn, Delainy, families Sorry if we have missed any Families. Wake Service will be held at Gordon Yellowfly Memorial Arbour on Friday May 23 from 4:00p.m to 6:00 p.m for family. 6:00pm for public. Funeral Service to follow on Saturday May 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Larry Water Chief presiding, Graveside service to follow at Canon Stockton Cemetery. The family would like to thank the Staff at Carewest George Boyack Home and the staff at Extendicare in Vulcan who took care of Winston, we also apologize if we have missed anyone, as this is a very trying and difficult time for us.
