Walter Stevens Obituary

It’s with Great Sadness we announce the passing of Walter Ross Stevens, of the Siksika First Nation and beloved husband of Melinda Stevens as well as his 3 Precious Sons. Walter passed away at his residence surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, February 19th, 2023, at 73. Mr. Walter Stevens was born to the late Charlie and Ruth Stevens on March 5th, 1949, at the Blackfoot hospital. He was 17 when he met the love of his life, Melinda Stevens; they have been married for 55 wonderful and fulfilling years. Together they had three handsome sons Dion Stevens, Kevin Stevens, and Shawn (Jennie) Stevens. In 1996 they welcomed their fourth son, Tyson Crow Eagle, into the family. Dad was a hard worker and took pride in everything he did. His first jobs were at PFRA, Carsland Alberta Cannel, and Alberta Environment. They then worked at Siksika Housing for 35 years until he retired. He then worked as a Bus Driver and medical driver for Siksika Medical Transportation. In his past time, he loved playing hand games. His favorite places to play hand games were in Northern Alberta and the Scarce Reservation. Dad was a hand game champion a few times, but the most recent win was in Kehewin, Alberta. He also was a humble man, which showed through his belief in what made a rich man, not material riches such as money, but that family and love created a rich man. All the love he gained and gave throughout his life shows this.

Dad is Survived by his wife and sons and his Grandchildren – Kiesha, Regan, Lydell, Kaylem, Ralna, James, Johanna, Dailyn, Gabriel, Johnathan, and Jay-Jay, Beth, Brayden, Blain, Brock.
