It is with great sadness that the family of Mi Sahm Set Tsi Koo – Wallace Norbert Bear Chief – announces his passing on Friday, July 18, 2025, in Siksika, Alberta, at the age of 90 years.
Wallace was born on October 15, 1934, in Siksika, where he spent his life surrounded by family, community, and tradition. A proud Siksika Nation elder, Wallace was known for his quiet strength, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ikimaan (Teresa Bear Chief); his children, Charlotte Bear Chief and Terrance Bear Chief; his parents, Walker and Martha Bear Chief; his brothers, Francis and Clement; and his sister, Donna. His relatives, Delma Fox , Hector Winnipeg Sr., Darlene Own Chief , Amy and Charlie Smith , Maggie Spotted Eagle , Peggy Stimson, Adrian Stimson Sr., Noelle and Peter Winnipeg, Minnie and William Bear Chief, and Mabel Fox.
Wallace is lovingly remembered by his children: Leah, Wally, Scott, Shannon, Marlene, and Norbert; and by his cherished grandchildren: Tia (John), Haley (Keenan), Teagan, Emma (Tristen), Justin, Erwin (Angela), Keith (Shawna), Riley, Taylor, and Maggie.
He also leaves behind his numerous treasured grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Arlo, Aria, Rori, and Layla, among many others who brought joy and light into his later years.
Wallace is survived by his siblings: Alvina, Celeste, Patsy, Roy, Melvin, Arthur, Robert (aka Mohawk), Joan, Stewart Own Chief, Arlene Own Chief, Brian Own Chief, and Olivia Good Rider — each of whom shared a special bond with him.
He will be remembered for his traditional knowledge, Blackfoot stories, generosity, quiet leadership, and the legacy of love, strength, and resilience he instilled in his family and all who knew him.
