Verona Mary Fox

It is with deep sadness to announce the passing of Verona Fox   Verona passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on November 3, 2023 in Siksika.  Veronica grew up on her late parent’s ranch in Little Washington.  She travelled with her children across Canada and the U.S. on the powwow trail.  She worked at Foothills Hospital, Siksika East Daycare and cleaned houses in Calgary.  She courageously beat breast cancer in the mid-1980’s.  She was famously known for her great sense of humour.  Verona had a lot of faith, she was compassionate, humble, gentle, strong-willed, kind and a fun-loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.  She was a loving wife of 38 years to husband Wayne Fox and a loving mother to children Sheldon Scalplock (Jacqui), Alex Scalplock (Lori), Laura Fantini-Scalplock (Tony) and stepchildren Waynette, Horace and Donnie.  Verona has 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  Verona was predeceased by her two sons Aaron Medicine Shield, Lennon Medicine Shield and 1 grandchild Brittnay Scalplock and parents’ siblings Mary Louise Solway (Medicine Shield), Rosie Solway (Medicine Shield) Steven Medicine Shield, Jane Bull Bear (Medicine Shield), Christine McMaster (Medicine Shield), Frances Many Bears (Medicine Shield), Joseph Medicine Shield, George Medicine Shield, and Franklin Medicine Shield.  Traditionally, Verona was raised by her late uncle and aunt Sam/Annie Red Old Man; the late Annie Running Rabbit (Leather); the late Steve Red Old Man; late Mary Ann Wells.  She was also raised by her traditional parents, the late Nickolaus and Maggie Black Kettle.  She had the privilege of raising her great niece Sarah Red Old Man.  Her extended families include the (Hind Bull clan), (Little Ration clan) (Red Old Man clan), (Many Guns clan), (Weasel Fat clan), (First Rider clan), (Sun Walk clan), (One Gun clan), (Good Eagle clan).  We apologize if we missed anyone.  Special thanks to her grandchildren Amanda, Sheldon JR, and Blade.  Also, Sunridge Dialysis Unit, Siksika EMS, Siksika Crisis Unit, Siksika Justice, and to all the family and friends who loved her dearly.

Wake services will be held at Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour on Friday November 10th, 2023 at 6pm. Funeral services will be held at Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour on Saturday November 11th, 2023 at 1pm. Graveside services to follow at Canyon Stock Cemetery (Siksika Nation, Alberta)
