Tillie Emma Schlossberger

The passing of Tillie Emma Schlossberger has brought some sadness to our family. She was born June 1, 1912 and passed away 2:30 A.M Nov. 24, 2019 at the age of 107 YEARS. Tillie was born to Anna Marie and Harry Gable at Grayson, Sask. They had three children and Tillie the eldest child. The First World War came and Harry (Tillie’s Dad) went to war and he and many others did not return. Tillie’s mom remarried Karl Exner a widower plus a farmer with 6 girls (some older than Tillie). The Happy family also had 3 more children of their own. Tillie married at 18 years to Walter Schlossberger and they had four children: Monica (Mona), Henry, Bennerdot and Fred. There were rough years to follow with no rain, no jobs and no money. Dad seemed to find jobs with little pay but was still able put a roof over our heads. We raised chickens and eggs, grew a garden and a milk cow to help make ends meet and although we had very little money or clothing, this made us grow-up and become strong. In 1945 we moved by train to Alberta where Dad ran a dairy farm for a while, then in 1948 moving to Rainer to crop share a farm with Bennerdot, Henry and Fred; Monica(Mona was already married). In 1965 Dad bought a farm in Scandia and stayed there until he retired to Brooks…Dad passed  in January, 1981 and Tillie stayed in her house until she was 100 YEARS along with help of her wonderful children. She had a passion for knitting and crochet and made a lot of fancy things. She also said that a garden is a necessity and flowers were for joy and pleasure. Tillie moved to Orchard Manor in December, 2012. Tillie was predeceased by her father Harry Gable in World War 1; stepfather Karl Exner in 1936; mother Ann Marie Exner in 1949; three children of Henry (Son) and Margaret; two infants, Gregory in 1962 and Stephen in 1966 and Malinda age 11 in 1978. Tillie`s husband Walter (Valentine) passed away in January, 1981. John Voroney (Mona) son-in-law died in May, 1993; Jack Frey (son-in-law) on Dec. 14, 2007; Fred Schlossberger (son) in May, 2012 and Grandson David Voroney on Nov. 22, 2014; Daughter-in-law Sheryl (Fred) Schlossberger on Dec. 2, 2015 and Daughter Bennerdot (Bennie) Frey on August 14, 2019. A Celebration of Her life will take place at Thom's Funeral Home And Reception Centre on March 19, 2020 2 PM.
