Ronald Backfat passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the age of 76 years with his family by his side
Ronald resided on Siksika Nation all his life with his wife Linda where they raised their 7 boys as well as numerous foster children, last one who he was raising with Linda was Kylie their precious little girl. Ronald raised his boys with a rodeo, cattle and ranch way of life until he was unable to do so.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 52 years Linda, his 5 sons, Sean (Lori), Tommy, Cody (Marla), Johnboy, and Rocky. His grandchildren: Jessica (Kyle) Paul, Cameron Waterchief, Antaya (Josh) Cardinal, Sam Onespot, Shania Backfat, Denver Backfat, Shania (Christian) Wasacase, Dayton (Angel) Medicine Sheild, Joley and Grayson Backfat, Treysen and Denzel Backfat, Montana (Richard) Manyheads, Dally Backfat and Lane Solway, His Great-Grandchildren: Evan, Alex and Liam Paul, Kayde Cardinal, Eva Wasacase/Crowchief Ronald loved and cherished all his grandchildren/great grandchildren.
Also survived by his sisters; Julia Backfat, Betty (Ron) Hewton, Marie Blackrider, Rachel First Rider, Esther Runningrabbit, Bernadette Big Snake, and Stella Turning Robe brothers; Clifton Backfat, Rex Backfat, and Elliott Backfat; also survived by extended families.
Ronald was predeceased by his parents (which he often spoke about, telling his childhood stories to his boys); Phillip and Mildred Backfat, his two sons Trent and Dallas Backfat, his sisters Bernice (Ed) Wolfchild, Ester Backfat, Elsie Backfat, Aldina Crowchild His sister in laws Marie Cutter, Betty Cutter and Loretta Manywounds and his brothers; Homer Backfat, Phillip Backfat Jr, as well numerous other family members who have gone before him.
Family would like to Send a huge Thank you to the staff at Agecare Sagewood - Strathmore Peter Loughheed Hospital Medical staff and all those who offered prayers and sitting/visiting with Linda and sons at this difficult time.
