Raymond Tyson Waterchief, Maato’minna (First Man) of Siksika Nation passed away suddenly on September 1, 2023 at the age of 39 years old. Raymond is survived by his son Razor Waterchief, his Mother Gina, his siblings; J., Keyvin (Tia), Redmond, and his sisters; Tiffany, Holly, Sue (Donovan); and brother, Adri. His nieces & nephews; Halo, Hayden, Camilla, Sayder, Dani-lynn, Prism, Zairon, Anasia, Tylee, Jr, Kadence, Iinni & Russell. His traditional parents Mario and Karen Waterchief and his traditional siblings; Leslie, Brent, Shayna (Brett), Brett, Ashley (Travis), Katerina, Chantell and Richelle. His Godchildren Christian, Trentyn and Aniko. His Godmother Elizabeth (Little Bit) Peacemaker. He was predeceased by his Father Jeff Little Light, his maternal Grandparents Raymond Waterchief and Rev. Margaret Waterchief, his paternal Grandfather Steve Red Old Man. His Uncle Ernest Waterchief, his Aunt Shannon Healy. His Godfather Stan Weaselchild. His traditional brother Dallas Wright.
Raymond attended elementary in Calgary at Valley View Elementary and Westmount Elementary in Strathmore. Raymond then went on to Jr. High at Samuel Crowther and then went on to graduate at Siksika Nation High School. Raymond went on to Old Sun Community College; where he upgraded and was also a part of the first ever Film Academy “ Counting Coup”. In the film academy Ray was a natural actor and often wowed the class with his amazing acting ability. He played hockey in the ANJHL/HJHL with the Siksika Ice and in the RHL for the Siksika Buffaloes.
Raymond had a heart a gold he would treat everyone with the utmost respect, his humbleness never went unnoticed wherever he went. He would greet family and friends with a handshake and a hug and would never leave you without an “I love you”. In his younger years he was an avid athlete with a love for ice hockey, ground hockey, baseball at Grandma Margaret’s, wrestling and pool.
He leaves to mourn his extended families; Big Bull, McMaster, Ayoungman, Brass, Three Sun, Eagle Speaker, Blackhorse, Winnipeg, Old Woman, Mayfield, Right Hands, Axe, Peace Maker, Turning Robe, Blackface, Maguire, Studhorse, Little Light, Red Old Man, Solway and Wells.
Wake Services will be on Wednesday, September 6th, 2023 at 6 p.m. at Piiksapi Memorial Arbour. Funeral Services will be celebrated on Thursday, September 7th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Piiksapi Memorial Arbour on Siksika Nation.
