Surrounded by her family in Brooks, Alberta, Nellie (Kamp) Slatter went home to Jesus on February 7, 2026. She was 104 years old. Nellie was born in Burdett, Alberta, the third of seven children born to Cornelia and Dirk Kamp.
Nellie met George in Calgary while working in the Colonel Belcher Hospital. He was the love of her life. They married in 1946 and had 3 beautiful daughters that they raised in Duchess, Alberta. They worked side by side at Slatter’s meat market. It is said that they could be seen every evening walking home, holding hands. Their love was endless.
Nellie was known far and wide for her delicious pie, quick smile, and no-nonsense way of being. She was loved by many and adored by her family. She will be greatly missed.
Nellie is survived by: her daughters, Linda (Gary) Peters, Brenda Brown, and Diane (John) Bogi; her grandchildren, Arvin and Brad (Denise) Grimshaw, Michael (Jamie) Bogi, Lisa Brown, Melinda (Raymond) Hogg, And Paige (Daniel) Gould; her great grandchildren, Clayton, Tysen, Adam, Rhett, Jessie, Kale, Jax, Georgia, Parker, Eleanor and Hattie.
Nellie is predeceased by: husband, George; parents, Cornelia and Dirk Kamp; brothers, Neil and Pete Kamp; sisters, Minnie and Lee; brother-in-law, Doug Moon and Watson Mitchell; and son-in-law, Tony Brown.
We want to thank the wonderful staff at Long Term Care in Brooks, as well as Dr. Coetzee, for all of the care and attention Nellie received in the last few years. It meant the world to her family.
