Mike Three Suns Obituary

Ronald Micheal Three Suns

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our dear Michael. Our Heavenly Father opened the doors of heaven and called Ronald Michael to his eternal home on April 12, 2021. His children, Trini, Ruth (Baby Girl) and Trevor loved their dad and cherished him as their hero. He was a good man, humble and loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He honored people and was known as a special friend to many.

Michael was a good teacher and well loved by the “Little Axe Drum Group” he managed the drum group and drove the boys to many pow-wows along with their late Uncle Henry Three Suns – Schemitzun Pow-Wow in Hartford Connecticut by a special invitation for Little Axe.  Among their major milestones include where Michael and Henry organized Little Axe to perform in front of Queen Elizabeth, also they did a special performance for former Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev. With the A-1 drum group they were  involved in the opening of the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988.  Little Axe will always remember how Michael and Henry mentored them as a successful well known drum group.

The Three Suns family have many fond memories of Mike. He was actively involved in a lot of activities and had a special way of bringing people together.  He enjoyed playing bingos, being at the casinos and especially loved participating in hand games.  He enjoyed being involved with the Calgary Stampede Indian Village with his brother Henry.  Mike enjoyed golfing with his late good friends Bruce Calf Robe and Donald Yellow Fly. Michael was one of the original members of the Siksika Hand Game Club and helped organize many tournaments.  He was elected and served as President for many years and travelled to many tournaments in Alberta, BC and the United States with the club. The family would like to acknowledge Michael’s athletic ability.  While he lived in Edmonton he won the North and South Central zone in long distance running.

Michael was employed at Public Works and was a dedicated employee as Foreman with the Sewer & Water Department and also operated the Heavy Equipment for 25 years.  He also worked an additional 5 years for Treaty 7 Urban Housing in Calgary. Michael is survived by his loving family and wife Joanne Yellowhorse along with his children; Trini (Danette), Ruth (Kirk) and Trevor (Pam). Step-children, Athena, Dedric (Tracy) and Late Lindsey (Dion).  His grandchildren, Dakota, Dillon, Christian, Annette (Cedric), Jerry (Maggie), Nelson (Nikki), Tunksi, Tyline; Lexie, Maddison, Kylee, Ephraim, Kaitlynn and Dominque.  Great grandchildren Novah, Alice, Melanie and Alina.  Also Mikes adopted mother, Louise English from Brocket, Alberta.  As well as his traditionally adopted son’s Jason Calf Robe and Kevin Stevens.
