Michael Joseph Right Hand (Niitaikimmi)

November 7th, 1944 – February 4th, 2024

With profound sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of Michael Joseph Right Hand, affectionately known as Mike, on Sunday, February 4th, 2024, at Peter Lougheed Hospital. Surrounded by his loving family, Mike departed this world at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and craftsmanship.

Born to Georgina Ann Many Bears and Fred Doore on November 7th, 1944, at Blackfoot Indian Hospital, Mike's journey through life was marked by devotion to his family, his craft, and his community. He was a beacon of strength and caring, living up to his name, Niitaikimmi.

Mike was a proud descendant of a distinguished line of veterans who honourably served in both the US and Canadian Armies. This heritage of bravery and service was a source of great pride for Mike and informed his service in the US Army, reflecting his unwavering commitment to duty and honour.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Deirdre Standing Alone; Adopted Daughter Terry Jane Chaboyer; his granddaughters Faith (Brad) Mistaken Chief, Hope Standing Alone, and Paige Standing Alone; grandsons Scott & Christopher Ground; and his cherished granddaughter, Baby Tara Standing Alone, the apple of his eye. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Sundance, Justin, Chantelle, Charity Brass, and Lillian, Beulah, & Beatrice Mistaken Chief, Hendrix Weasel Head.

Survived by siblings Merlon (Stacey) Doore, Keon (Erica) Doore, Richard (Florence) Right Hand, Marcel (Delores) Right Hand, Delphine, Gina (Lance) Flamand, and Novena Flynn, along with in-laws Delphine Right Hand, Wayne Leather, Dean Simeon, Edna Standing Alone, Wanda (Peter) Weasel Head, Baron (Bobbie) Standing Alone, and Byrde (Del) Healy. His numerous nieces and nephews, each holding a special place in his heart, will also dearly miss him.

Predeceased by his wife March Gail Right Hand nee Standing Alone; his parents Georgina Ann Many Bears and Fred Doore;  Step Mother Ruby Doore,  Father in Law Allan (Beulah) Standing Alone; his daughters Tara Standing Alone & Bonnie Brass; in-laws Tyrone Eagle Speaker, Allen “Marna” Standing Alone; and siblings Loretta Doore, Charlene Doore, Janice Doore, Karl Doore, Mildred Simeon, Gary Right Hand, Arthur Right Hand, Beverly Leather, Joyce Daniels, Timothy Spotted One, Jean Many Heads, Gregory Right Hand, Marilyn Right Hand and Margarita Flynn. Grandchildren Amber Standing Alone – Eagle Tail Feathers and Michealynn Brass also welcomed him into his heavenly home.

An accomplished Journeyman Red Seal Carpenter and proud member of the UBC Local 2103 carpenters' union, Mike found joy in the art of carpentry. His work, marked by precision and passion, stands as a testament to his skill and dedication.

Mike's extended family includes the Right Hand, Many Bears, Poor eagle, Spotted Eagle, Many Heads, Low horns, Cutter, Crowfoot, Doore, Big Snake, Breaker, Crane, Three Suns, St Goddard, Rides at the Door, Long time Sleeping, Stone, Backfat, Singer, and Mistaken Chief families, among others. We apologize for any families we may have missed. To many, Mike was not just a friend but a brother, uncle, and father.

Wake services for Mike will be held on Thursday, February 8th, 2024, at The Late Micheal Right Hand’s (Deirdre Standing Alone’s) residence in Siksika Nation, AB. His funeral will take place on Friday, February 9th, 2024, at the Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbor, followed by burial at Paul Little Walker Cemetery.

In Mike's memory, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a legacy of love and craftsmanship that will endure for generations. He was truly a Caring Man, whose spirit and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him.
