It is with sad hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Maurice Junior Brass of the Siksika Nation, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Maurice Junior Brass was born in Calgary, Alberta on October 16, 1969. His Parents are Lydia Brass and the Late Morris Brass.
Maurice aka Fatts was raised in the Siksika Nation. He attended Arrowwood School for elementary school, then attended High School at the County Central High School in Vulcan, Alberta. He graduated from the Old Sun Community College with his Grade 12 earning his High School Diploma.
Maurice was raised on the Brass Farm aka “Across” with all his cousins from his Uncle Roberts and Aunts Ruth and Evelyns Children. As kids, they would play cops and robbers, ground hockey, football, wrestling build forts, and go to the river and coulees. Also, helps his dad with the farm by picking rocks in the fields, building fences, and working with cattle.
Fatts was known for being a huge sports fanatic and commentator, always commentating play-by-play with every sport he watched. He loved having company at his home, meeting new people, and talking their ears off about the latest sports debacles or the most current world and local news.
He was a loyal Edmonton Oilers Fan, he always cheered for them, winning or losing. Also, he was a NASCAR fan, and his favorite drivers were Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt S,R and JR. Fatts even traveled to North Carolina to watch a race on the Charlotte track. He stayed with the Clark/Crowfoot family, and we would like to thank them for caring for my brother.
His house was filled with his favorite Oilers Jerseys, NASCAR flags, sports equipment, and sports memorabilia and trinkets. He lived in the ultimate bachelor pad.
He was an avid golfer; he took the time to build and maintain his golf course known as Fatts Brass Golf Course; he hosted many tournaments and even had one of the school programs come over to learn how to golf on his course during the summer.
Fatts also loved to watch his nephews and nieces play hockey and encouraged all of them to try their best and if he would go to their games. Winter times he would go down to the canal and look for a smooth surface and scrap the ice for them to go skating.
