Mary Enns Obituary

Mary (Neufeld) Enns, beloved wife of the late Jake Enns, passed away in the Brooks Health Center, August 2nd, 2022, at the age of 94 years, to be with her Savior in Heaven.

Mary was born in Chinook, AB, March 10, 1928, to Henry and Pauline Neufeld.  She received her schooling in various places as the family moved around.  She married her sweetheart, Jake on April 20, 1949, and together they farmed in Gem, AB, until retired to Brooks, in 1984.  After Dad’s passing, she purchased a condo at the Hilton in Brooks, moving from there after 14 years to Newbrook Lodge, and as her health deteriorated to Orchard Manor.

Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband in 1999, her daughter Adeline in 2012, her brothers Dave and Henry, and her sisters Anne, Helena and Jessie.

Nary is survived by 2 sons, Rick (Wilma) of Medicine Hat, and Mel of Duchess. Mom had an “adopted” daughter, Elaine (Dennis) Dahl. Also 4 grandchildren, Rob Edwards of Calgary, Pete (Charvel) Enns of Fort MacMurray, Aron (Laura-Lee) Enns of Rosemary, and Mary (JP) Wright of Ireland. Mary also leaves behind 5 great grandchildren, Mackenna and Sophie Wood, Jaxen Enns, and Carter and Lacie Enns. She leaves behind one brother Bill (Ruth) Neufeld, and sister-in-law, Elsie Epp. She also had numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary was well loved by this group.

Mary was involved in her church, whether it was teaching Sunday school, working in the kitchen at functions, or working with the ladies group on various charities. She was a hardworking and creative farm wife who loved to cook, bake, preserve, garden, growing flowers and arranging them. She designed quilts, at one time teaching classes to ladies in Gem on quilting. She dried flowers and made lovely pictures with them. Also enjoyed crocheting and knitting, among other crafty endeavors.

Mary loved spending time with her family, whether in person or by phone. In Covid years, we visited often over FaceTime on the iPad that Orchard Manor used for residents.  We continued with this weekly practice once a week until her passing.

We would like to thank the staff of Orchard Manor for the loving care that was extended to Mom over the last several years, and also to the staff at the Brooks Health Center for the care and compassion during her final days, not only to her, but to our family as well.

At Mary’s request, there will be no service.
