Mary Dietz Obituary

It is with great sorrow that the family of Mary Dietz announce her passing on July 6th, 2021, in Brooks, AB, at the age of 86 years. Mary was born in Heart River, and grew up in High Prairie, AB. She will be lovingly remembered by her family, Marg Tokar (John), Russ Webb (Anita), Veronica Dietz, Alex Dietz (Tammy), and Violet Robertson (Kim). Mary was brought up in a family of five sisters, whom she remained close with throughout her life.  She will be dearly missed by Helen Cartier (Gary), Martha Talbot (Edwin), and Wanda Horosko (Roy). Mary was the loving grandmother to nine grandchildren, Johnny and Coral, Cole, Kolton and Courtney, Ashley and Kristen, and Krystal and Kori.  She was so excited when her great-grandchildren came along; J.T. and Richard, Roper, Raelynn and Lucas, Elliot and Jasper, and Greyson. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Alex, after 46 years of marriage, in 2005. She was also predeceased by her parents, Fred and Katherine, in 1979 and 2002, respectively.  Mary recently lost her sister, Rose, who passed away on May 6th, 2021. She was also predeceased by brothers-in-law Joe Cartier and Gary Horosko, as well as her sweet great nephew, Lukas Rule. Predeacesed also by Lonnie Dietz, nephew and Ed Dietz, brother in-law, and Doris Dietz, sister in-law. She is survived by an aunt, Polly Stafford, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary resided in Brooks, AB, for the past 57 years, where she developed great and long lasting friendships, some of which were fostered through her work at the Brooks Nursing home over 22 years. Throughout this time she became close to her “card ladies”, who met once a week for cards, and occasionally got together for adventurous excursions!  They are Judy Bandura, Dorothy Nicholson, Joyce Evans, Renee Seitz and Della Willard. In recent years, two very close friends, Judy Bandura and Isabella Loucks, also became an integral part of her support system, as did her sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Edwin Talbot, and her family are forever grateful to them. In her early years in Brooks, Mary enjoyed being a member of the local Oilwives Club. She loved to garden, crochet and cross-stitch, bowl, and was an avid reader. Most of all, she loved seeing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as her family grew and flourished. Visitation for friends and family will be held at Thom’s Funeral Home and Reception Centre in Duchess, AB, on July 14th at 12:00pm. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm. Graveside service to follow at Brooks Cemetery with Pastor Daryle Fox Officiating. Memorial donations in Mary’s name may be made to the Newbrook Lodge at 500 3rd Street East, Brooks, Alberta T1R 1P6.
