CALF ROBE, Marie – Maatsimapitsowaki  (So Pretty) January 13, 1935 – June 20, 2023

Marie Calf Robe beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great, great grandmother, sister, and aunt of Siksika Nation passed away at Siksika Elder’s Lodge on June 20, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.  Marie leaves behind her children: Roberta, Delbert, Noran and Eddy, Pamela (Jason), Veronica Waskahat, Moise Paul, grandson Shawn, and granddaughter Reno (Jon) whom she raised as her own children. Adopted children: Robin Big Snake, Justine Big Snake, Jackie Many Guns, Gaylene Weasel Child, Lindi Mae Takaguchi, Trevor and Travis Pelletier, Jessie Pelletier, Verona Melting Tallow, Pam Spring Chief, Karen Little Light, Marion Owl Child, Dion Spotted Eagle, Joey Big Tobacco, Casey Maguire, Clayton Red Gun, and Paul Holmes; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; Sister Ruth (Francis) Melting Tallow; Sister in law Sharon Calf Robe and Chris CR; Brother Andrew Bear Robe. The Matriarch of her family, Marie lived a long and fulfilling life dedicated to her family, extended family, and those who she resided along with at the Siksika Elder’s Lodge as well as the staff. Marie was a residential school survivor of the Crowfoot Residential School. She was employed in many areas including Siksika Children’s Shelter, Siksika East Daycare, and Crowfoot School custodian, and was a loving foster parent.  Marie was proud of her Siksika culture and was very active in sharing her knowledge with those who visited her.  She had tremendous knowledge of Siksika history, immense stories, and valuable family information which she shared with people as she saw them.  Along with her late husband Ed, Marie was a long-time teepee owner at the Calgary Stampede and took tremendous pride in caring for and displaying their tepee. Marie also had a passion for beading, watching her grandchildren in their sporting activities, especially hockey, and chuckwagons, she enjoyed playing hand games, watching powwows especially when her grandchildren danced, her annual trips to Lac St. Anne, and most of she loved attending the annual Indian Days celebrations in Siksika. She loved to host and help with fundraisers to attend this annual pilgrimage to Lac St. Anne as well as fundraise for renovations that were needed at the Catholic Church. Marie made her Cursillo in 1993 with the theme “Tell Me the Story of Jesus”.  She also loved celebrating horse racing and going to Sundance. Her favorite saying, “Speed It Up”

Marie is predeceased by her husband Ed Calf Robe Sr., daughter Janice Greyeyes, granddaughters Brittany & Mardi; daughter in law Zena Calf Robe, parents Tom and Floria Scalp Lock; Siblings: Paul, Lucy, Glenter, RoseMarie, Lawrence, Donald, Albert and Annie Running Rabbit; Traditional adopted parents Joe and Maggie Bear Robe.

The family would like to give special thanks to Nurse Tessa, Pam Spring Chief, Verona Melting Tallow, Tracey Calf Robe, Lisa Calf Robe, Wanda Calf Robe, Loreli Calf Robe, and Harriet Broad Scalp Lock. Also many blessings to the staff and residents of the Siksika Elder’s Lodge, friends, and family who have supported them during this difficult time.

Wake Services will take place at the One Gun Community Hall (Cluny, AB) on Monday, June 26, 2023, from 4-6 pm for family members and 6 pm–midnight for friends and relatives.  Final viewing at 10 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (Siksika Nation) on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, with Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 am.  Gravesite services are to be held at Little Washington Cemetery with a feast to follow at the One Gun Community Hall.
