Mardi BroadScalplock Obituary

Today we celebrate the life and beautiful memories of our dear precious Mardi Broad Scalplock (Mardigurl or smartigurl) who passed away on February 27, 2022. Her Siksika name was Niitohtawahka meaning “Come Forward Alone.” Mardi was extremely over-joyed when Peyton, her son was born. She loved Pey deeply her precious gift to us. Her greatest wish was that Peyton is loved, always safe and protected. Mardi spoiled him with love and the good things in life. She always communicated to Pey how much she loved him and always told Mother Mildred to tell Pey I love him and hug him for me.  Mardi was a friendly person who had a heart of Gold, sparkling caring personality and never turned a soul away. She was known for her kindness, gentleness and welcoming grace. The family will miss her awesome organizational skills, a perfectionist in planning work-related and family events. She loved pow-wows/powwow music, road trips with family and friends and being a third wheel to her big brother Quin. Mardi had a special bond and loved her nieces and nephews and dear cousins whom she helped to raise. Mardi was protected by her brothers and her first cousins. Mardi had a special bond with all her niece/nephews, and with Kelly whom she babysat and raised. She also, was a number 1 fan of her brothers, nephews, Phoenix, Christopher, Conan and Taze at their baseball and hockey games. Mardi loved hosting and cooking family dinners and BBQ’s. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and always greeted people with a smile. She always made sure everyone was comfortable before herself. Mardi was a classy woman in her style of clothing, eye wear and jewelry. She loved life and trips to the river as her healing journey connection to the love of her life, Cash Bear Chief. Mardi enjoyed laughs, jokes and singing. People enjoyed teasing her and she will tease them right back. She never took offense to them, she laughed with them. Mardi graduated with a grade 12 diploma and went on to complete her business administration certificate from Bow Valley College and took additional courses in Human Resources. She worked in various office positions for Siksika Children Services both on/off Reserve, Human Resources, Tsuu Tina Daycare, Siksika Health Services and recently completed a work project with Siksika Employment & Training.  Mardi will be missed for her famous dimple smile with her contagious laugh and adorable squeak which touched everyone who loved and knew her. Mardigurl is loved, happy, and safe now.
