Larry Amos Leather “ Niitstitaahniikahpii”

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Larry Leather, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, traditional grandfather to Siksika Nation. Larry was born on Siksika Nation on August 19, 1945 to Amos and Edan Leather (nee Jerry).
He attended the Saint Joseph Residential School, and during his lifetime he ventured out to explore his interests, and one of them was to become a rancher and rough stock cowboy. He was always very passionate with horses which led him to build his ranch. He was a Siksika traditional spiritual leader and belonged to various societies of Siksika.
Larry accomplished many in various employment throughout his lifetime, Siksika Addictions Services along with his wife Sarah for many years, together they made a great team. He also worked as an Elders mentor with Correctional Services Canada and the Alberta Elder Service Program.
He is survived by his only child Tomalina (Girley) Leather, and grandchildren Jayden (Dakota), Chase, Chance, Summer, Durell Holloway-Leather, Lanaya, Leyton, Lexon, and Lacey Leather. Great grandchildren, Daluka, Zeke, Alexander Nate, and Baby Chance Leather.
His brothers, Wayne Roger Leather and Clarence (Munii) Leather, and Uncle Larry had a special bond with his niece Georgina Solway and nephews, Clement, Joseph Leather, and Allan Running Rabbit. And Late Arnold Running Rabbit, cousin Gerald Sitting Eagle. They shared many memories growing up together as siblings.
Larry also had numerous adopted children with his late wife Sarah Leather (nee McMaster), Velda Leather, Warren Winnipeg, Marca Weasel Head, Pearline Edwards, Bernice and Theresa Leather and Late Fabian Wolf Child (Buckshot). Larry took his nieces and nephews as his own children, too many to mention. His traditional adopted Mother Louise English and traditional adopted children. Verna Drunken Chief, Carrie McMaster.
Larry was predeceased by his wife Sarah Leather (nee McMaster), in 2005 and his son Nathan Jacobson in 2023. Brother and sisters, George Leather, Thomas Jerry, sister, Annie Running Rabbit (nee Leather), Jean Leather, Lillian Edwards, Angeline Crow Chief (nee Leather), nieces and nephews, Charlie Leather, Agnes and Maxine Jerry, Arnold and Sheila Running Rabbit, Jessi and Sidney Edwards, George Chico Crow Chief, Myra Crow Chief (Leather) Shelly Right Hand, Lydia Leather and Clarence Leather Junior. In-laws Laura Leather, Mildred Jerry, Joe Running Rabbit, Ronald Bear Shirt, Raymond Crow Chief, Beverly Leather, and Adam Edwards.

His extended families, are George Leather Family, Annie Running Family, Jerry’s, Sitting Eagle, Running Birds, Old’s Family, and Red Calf.
