Lakota Blackrider Obituary

Life Story Of Lakota Blackrider “K’at’ina” meaning “Man” passed down to him from and by his grandpa Alex Crowchild. It means to be a hard working man, a protector, and a provider. Lakota held that meaning close to his heart and carried it with his character.

Lakota was born at the Peter Lougheed on January 7, 2006. He came early into the world and stayed 6 weeks extra in the hospital. During Lakota’s stay my family and I attended ceremony on Tsuu Tina Nation for him to be well and healthy to leave the hospital. Lakota’s father, Martin, chose his name: Lakota Anthony King. The middle name Anthony honors my father, Floyd King, while the surname King comes from Lakota’s grandfathers, Bradley Crowchild, following his father’s family name. Lakota belongs to Siksika Nation, blood from Tsuu Tina Nation, and love made from peepeekisis with traditional values from the 7 sacred ceremonies that came from South Dakota, USA. These four parts made Lakota, which instilled prayer within himself.

Lakota grew up in both Calgary and Tsuu Tina Nation where his Crowchild family is from. He attended day care and Chilla School there. Most of his education was in Calgary but eventually back on Tsuu Tina to finish his certificate. Lakota followed his father, and Late Grandfather work ethic in carpentry and framing.

During his time, Lakota faced many trials and tribulations, it didn’t stop him from prayer, Traditional or through the Good book, the Bible. Our son believed.

Lakota means “friends” or “allies”

Mitakuye Oyasin is a well known Lakota prayer, meaning, “All My Relations”, as acknowledgement that all beings, human, animal, plant, and mineral are related.
“I seek strength not be greater than my brother, but fight my greatest enemy – myself make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes. So when life fades, as the fading sunset, my spirit may come to you without shame”.
Yellow Lark, 1887 Lakota Sioux Chief
