Kelly Glen Good Eagle – Akssa’piita
Kelly, 71 years old, was born into the Siksika Nation on April 16,1955. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kelly on June 28, 2026. Kelly was the son of Paul Good Eagle & Edna Turtle. Kelly is survived by his partner Georgina Sitting Eagle and his daughter Michelle Black Kettle, his sons Stan Whiteman Sr & Dickie Makokis. Adopted sons Craig First Rider, David Muskego & adopted daughters Michelle Big Wolf, Marla Calf Robe, Misty Blue Mesteth. His sisters March (Beetle) Good Eagle, Yvonne Conrad, Joanne Red Old Man, Doris Blackkettle and brother Robert Muskego. His grandchildren Stanley (Tashina), Kelli Ann, Verlina, Skyleesha Whiteman, Layla (Sayder), Markus, Mattias, Amya Makokis, Mackenzie Latham and great grandchildren Delena, Hazeliene, Mackenzie Ann, Hailey, Alice, Evelyn Rae, Deswood Jr., Stanley Jr. Whiteman, and Mayson (Old Man) Good Eagle. As well as all his nieces & nephews and numerous great nieces & nephews. Extended family members are Good Eagle, Turtle, Stud Horse, Black Kettle, Sitting Eagle, Scabbyrobes, Bear Robe, Weasel Head, Calf Robe, Crow Chief, Weasel Moccasin, First Rider, Eagle Rib, Many Guns, Sleigh, Star Light, Tail Feathers, Goodstriker, Wadsworth, Beebe, Rabbit Carrier, Many Shots, Rides at the Door, Olney and our apologies if we missed anyone.
Kelly's legacy throughout his life had an enduring impact that involved the Blackfoot Cultural and Traditional ways of life, by attending the Sundance and Ceremonies. Kelly enjoyed travelling to powwows and was an accomplished Men’s Buckskin Dancer. It gave him joy and happiness when he travelled all over Canada and the United States dancing with his family in the powwow circuit. He was a devoted member in the community to renewing the Blackfoot Traditions and was a fluent speaker of the Blackfoot Language. He was an advocate and mentor for the Blackfoot traditions, teaching the power of prayer. He was a leader that showed respect and love to everyone. Kelly was a member of the Sundance Society iitskinaiks (The Horns). He had numerous accomplishments throughout his lifetime. Kelly alongside his late wife Daphne was a former Tipi owner at the Elbow River Camp in the Calgary Stampede grounds and sat on the Calgary Stampede committee. His teachings extended to creation storytelling and prayers with Rafter Six Ranch, Calgary City Police, University of Calgary, Alberta Health Services, Mahmawiatoskwinas, Seven Brothers and Calgary Friendship Centre. He was a board member for these 8 organizations.
Kelly was known for his good hearted soul; He possessed a genuinely kind, compassionate, and giving nature. He treated others well with the utmost respect. He shared stories, knowledge and support to everyone he came in contact with. His presence brought a sense of comfort and happiness when he conversated with people. The laughter he brought to everyone is the greatest gift that will be missed. Kelly really made a difference in everyone’s life that came in contact with him. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and kind friend throughout his life and will truly be missed by all relatives near and far.
Kelly was predeceased by his beloved wife Daphne Good Eagle of 45 years, parents Paul Good Eagle and Edna Munro, Sons Mervin Good Eagle and Kelly Jr. Good Eagle, daughter Joanne Good Eagle, Brothers Derald Blackkettle, Duane Red Old Man, Sisters, Monica Muskego, Tonia
Ackerman, Joanne Turtle, Nephews and Niece, Chris Conrad, Cody, Emmet, Brian, Robin Black Kettle, Grandchildren Deswood Whiteman, Great Grandchildren Allyanna Whiteman.
Wake Service will be held on July 7, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Georgina Sitting Eagle residence and then moved to the Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour (Siksika Nation) on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 7:00 pm and funeral will be July 8, 2026 at 11:00am on the Siksika Nation at Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour followed by burial at the Little Washington Cemetery.
