Kayneta Schoenfeld Obituary

The family of Kayneta Schoenfeld, also known as Kay, of Rosemary, Alberta, is saddened to announce her peaceful passing on June 27, 2024, at the age of 74 years in the Brooks Health Center after a lengthy battle with cancer.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters; Debbie Bellavance, Nancy Lassiter (Kent) and Mia Schoenfeld; Grandchildren Robert Bellavance, Ashley Woynorski (Devin), Colton Lassiter (Ashley), Brittany Taing (Khim), Kayla Bertin (Savy), Cassandra Neal (Casey); twelve great grandchildren; sister Noni Rolfson; sisters-in-law Barb Thurber and Linda Rawn (Del), brother-in-law Pat Reid, good friend Theo Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews and other friends.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Eldon Schoenfeld of nearly 40 years, grandson Damon Clarke, parents Delyle Sorensen and Leone Sorensen, sister Lyla Dee Reid, brother Kevin Sorensen, brothers-in-law Richard Rolfson and Barrie Thurber, nephews Jeffery Gray and Weston Reid and niece Kara Reid.

Kayneta Schoenfeld was born on April 20, 1950, in Brooks, Alberta to Delyle and Leone Sorensen. She grew up on a farm near Rosemary where she and her siblings worked hard helping with the endless chores and making many happy memories. Kay enjoyed sports, especially basketball, for which she was a star player for the Rosemary Rockets. After high school graduation, she attended nursing school in Calgary. She later worked at the Brooks Health Centre and then met her future husband and the love of her life, Eldon Schoenfeld in 1969. She was blessed with an instant family as she adopted Eldon’s two daughters, Debbie and Nancy. In 1970, the Schoenfeld family welcomed another daughter into the world, Mia. They lived in Rosemary, then Gem, only to return to Rosemary, where she began a career as a school bus driver until her retirement.

She touched all who knew her in many different ways but had extremely special relationships with granddaughters Cassandra and Kayla. For many years, Eldon and Kay lived on an acreage near Rosemary where Kayla and Cassandra spent some time living with them. The acreage was their pride and joy. Kay took great satisfaction in ownership, and it was apparent to all who knew her as her home, her acreage, and even her vehicles, immaculately sparkled and shined. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, gardening, canning, playing the organ, and writing poetry for which she had a few published. She made hundreds of quilts and unselfishly gave them away to loved ones, to friends, and even to strangers. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was known for helping others whenever and however she could.
