Bartman – Karl Bartman of Brooks passed away in Medicine Hat on Monday, February 27, 2012 at the age of 85 years. Karl was born January 26, 1927 in Pollockville, Alberta to Russell and Mabel Bartman. He married Rita Eggen on December 10, 1949 and they raised their children on the family ranch near Pollockville. In 1975, Karl and Rita retired to an acreage outside of Duchess. Karl loved antiques. He restored twenty-seven tractors and many antique vehicles throughout his life, and this impressive accomplishment was featured on the Prairie Farm Report. He enjoyed time in the shop – building, fixing and inventing. Karl loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren; they would always put a smile on his face. He is survived by his loving wife, Rita; four children - Gary, Carol (Jack), Dan (Sally), and Sandy (Cindy); ten grandchildren - Shannon (Matt), Christie (Rod), John (Melissa), Lori (Paul), Shawn (Shelley), Sheila (Darcy), Ellen (Trevor), Courtney (Shaun), Brianne, Jordy; fourteen great-grandchildren - Isaac, Jacob, Luke, Simon, Cole, Kalem, Tyler, Erika, Marin, Nora, Jacoby, Poppy, Sam and Ryo; as well as many other loving friends and family members. He was predeceased by his brother Howard and his daughter-in-law Lorna. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 4, 2012 in the Duchess Community Hall and Karl’s grandchildren were honourary pallbearers. In memory of Karl, memorial tributes may be made to the Diabetes Association - Brooks and District, PO Box 187 Brooks, Alberta T1R 1C3.
