Justin Cory McMaster of the Siksika Nation was called home by our creator on July 21, 2024, at Calgary, AB. His family lineage belongs to the McMaster, Sleigh, Hornberger and Medicine Shield clans.
Justin is survived by his loving parents Agnes McMaster and Eldred (Georgette) Hornberger and adopted parents Polly and Harold Woods, his children Nolan (Skylar) Sleigh and Tayla Sleigh; special granddaughter Nora and siblings Jodie-Lynn McMaster, Callen (Louise) Sinclair-McMaster, Christopher McMaster, Allen (Lisa) McMaster, Destiny (Shane) Medicine Shield, Maria Medicine Shield, Danae (Andy) Frew, Angelina (John) Hornberger-Pardo, Deanna (Gonzales) Hornberger-Gaggero and Weston Hornberger; and a special uncle, Francis McMaster. Justin is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Justin was predeceased by maternal grandparents, Weyman and Christine McMaster, paternal grandparents George and Ula Hornberger, brother Brandon Medicine Shield, and his precious son Peyton Sleigh.
Justin was raised in the communities of Siksika Nation Bassano surrounded by his family. He participated in many sports activities including soccer and track and field. Justin was also a gifted hockey player and played for many teams and clubs during his upbringing including the Siksika Buffalo Senior A and Junior B clubs and the Bassano and Brooks Minor Hockey associations. A major accomplishment in his hockey career was making the Alberta Selects AAA team as he was the sole Indigenous player to be offered a position on the peewee level. In addition to his natural athletic ability, Justin was a gifted songwriter and enjoyed expressing himself through music. Justin will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
