Judy Royal Obituary

Judy Royal (nee Calfchild) – January 4, 1949 – December 13, 2020

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Judy Caroline Royal with her family by her side at Strathmore Auxiliary on December 13, 2020 at the age of 71 years. Judy married her late husband Darrell, her soulmate and raised their daughter Kimberley (Peter) and son Dylan. Her precious grandchildren Brenda, Kristie Ann, Brandon and Denzel. Her great grandson Darion and special great niece Cadence Young. She also leaves behind her siblings Clifford (Sherrie), Donnie (Francis), Kevin and Darcy (Pella), Korine and June. Judy was predeceased by her soulmate Darrell, her parents Earl and Florence Calfchild. Siblings: Brenda, Joyce, Arlene, Audrey, Lauren, Ralph and Norman.

Judy attended school at the Gleichen day school. She obtained her Interior Decorating Certificate at Mount Royal University. Judy worked on the nation with Lands Department and many years at BCHP.  She had an intense spiritual belief in our God our creator as her father. Judy attended the Anglican Church with her father who was the layman and also got fully involved with her family attending many revivals where she was known to sing and people commented on beautiful singing voice.  As a family Judy and Darrell helped their family members especially with guidance and spirituality. As the Matriarch of the Calfchild family, Judy helped raise many nieces and nephews as she had a revolving door for them to come to.  They gained a deeper love and conviction to our Father in order to deal with issues and situations turned their way especially when their son was sick.

Judy was an intelligent woman who worked tirelessly to our Nation where she had insurmountable knowledge about our Blackfoot ancestors.  She always retained her family’s history and was very proud of her family. Judy was a very private and humble person who didn’t impose on her family if she needed help. She just picked up, thought positive and held her own until God had a different plan for her. Judy loved to dance with her soulmate and would clean up the dancing floor. It was a way that she and Darrell balanced their lives.  Judy has been a great lady who had a lot of class.  She will be missed by her family and friends so hopefully once this pandemic has ended the family hope to celebrate her life with all her loved ones at a later time and date. Our mom has gone to dance in the sky with her love.
