ADAMS – Gerald (Jerry) Adams of Duchess

God called him Home, from Brooks on December 13, 2021.

He was born in Brooks on January 7th, 1955 and lived in the Duchess area all his life.  Farming with his father and brothers, he took much satisfaction in raising quality crops and producing hay good enough to be shipped to racehorses overseas. He spent many hours behind the wheel of his semi trucks, his “big rigs”, hauling hay out wherever needed.  His trucks were his babies and he kept them polished and serviced, ready to go at all times. There was always grease under his fingernails for he loved to take old equipment that had been abandoned years before and make it all work properly again.

Animals were always a big part of Jerry's life: Angus cattle, dogs ( he ran a sled dog team just for fun for a while), and always a cat or two would find their way into his heart.  Books and magazines were important; as well as always being up on the news he was a bit of a historian, enjoying books on the Old West as well as Military and Roman history. Jerry was always genuinely interested in everyone he met: where they were from, how they came to be here - and so often he would have been through their hometown, or had read about it, or had met someone else from the same place, to their surprise and gratification. He had an ongoing battle with cancer for a long time, but the great doctors at the Tom Baker Cancer Center were able to give him more than eleven full and productive years doing what he loved on the farm. We who loved him will all miss him so much: his wife and best friend of more than forty years Ronnie, her son Jim and his family, his dad Lawrence, sister Susan (Bob) Hamblin, brothers Tom (Donna) and Jack (Cristita), nephews Mitch, Dustin, Kevin and Kyle, niece Nikki, and all their families. Jerry will be in our hearts forever.
