Hazel Elinor Heck peacefully joined her husband Johnnie, and sons, Lindell and Philip, in heaven on Friday, August 29th, 2025 at the age of 92. We can only imagine what a reunion that must have been! Hazel is survived by her daughter Marian (Stewart) Finkbeiner, son Lyle Heck and numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
Hazel was born on September 15, 1932 in Hoosier, SK to Bill and Jean Reid. She was raised on a farm outside of Hoosier and moved to Sunnynook after high school to help her widowed sister. This is where she met Johnnie and they married shortly thereafter. Hazel and Johnnie farmed near Sunnynook until they retired and moved to Hanna in the mid 90’s.
During Hazel’s years at Sunnynook she worked alongside Johnnie on the farm, was a homemaker, drove school bus to the Cessford School and spent many hours in her flower and vegetable gardens. Her love of gardening carried into retirement, where she won “Yard of The Year” at their home in Hanna. Her retirement also allowed her time to knit, complete puzzles, paint, enjoy card nights with friends and travel. She took numerous bus trips to the US, and went on two holidays with Marian to Arizona and Nova Scotia.
After celebrating her 80th birthday, still living at home, Hazel moved into Parkview Manor in Hanna, where she enjoyed more cards, visiting and attending Church. Hazel was ever proud of her Grand and Great Grandchildren and could always be heard sharing their stories and telling her caregivers about them.
In December 2022 Hazel moved to Sunrise Gardens in Brooks where she was happy and content to watch the game show network and every curling bonspiel between her many card games and visits with daughter Marian.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thomson, who willingly took Hazel on as a patient when she moved to Brooks, the caregivers at Sunrise Gardens and the staff at the Brooks Health Centre for the kindness they all showed towards Hazel.
Please join us in celebrating a life well lived at 2:30 on Friday, September 5th at the Hardgrass Hub in Pollockville.
