It is with sadness the family of Grant Miller Wilfley announce his passing at the age of 81 on Thursday Nov 6, 2025 at the Bassano Health Centre in Bassano, AB.
Grant was born on August 4, 1944, in High River, AB to Ray and Marian Wilfley. He had one older sister, Carolyn, and was married on October 5, 1963 to Carolyne Kae Albertson in Brooks, AB. He went on to earn an undergraduate degree in Political Science at the University of Calgary, and a Law degree from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB.
After graduation, Grant articled for a law firm in Calgary and went on to establish a partnership, opening offices in Cochrane, Calgary, and Airdrie. He, Carolyne and three sons lived in or near Cochrane throughout this time. When Grant retired, they maintained a residence west of Cochrane near the Ghost Reservoir and spent many winters in Arizona and California, settling in the Bassano area in the summer of 2023.
Grant was an avid curler, golfer, skier, squash and racquet ball player who enjoyed doing these with friends and family. He hand built canoes and kayaks and loved to watch baseball with his dad. Grant was a remarkable character who revelled in the absurd, who gathered eccentric friends to him, and whose greatest happiness were the antics of his boys and grandchildren. His most important loves were his family and his faith.
Grant is survived by his wife Carolyne (Bassano, AB), his sons: Mike (Kara) of Calgary, children Madeline (Sydney, Australia) and Juliana (Kelowna, BC); Brad (Meredith) of Bearspaw, son Lachlan; and Mitch (Angela) of New Sarepta, AB; children Gabe, Seth, Elli and Annie.
He is survived by one sister, Carolyn Matiisen (Calgary), and nieces Jan Matiisen, Melanie Dewar, Amber Kurtz and nephew Lee Capon and their families.
A memorial service will be held for Grant on November 14, 2025 at Thom’s Funeral Home and Reception Centre in Duchess, AB at 2:00 pm. A reception will be held after the service for those attending.
