Gina Marya Solway

SOLWAY Gina Marya (Pookakii) was born on July 14, 2001 in Calgary AB. Gina was called home to be with Our Lord on June 8, 2020 in Siksika Nation, Alberta. Gina will be remembered for her kind, humble and easy going personality. She loved to laugh and hang out with her cousins and friends. She loved going to the Calgary Stampede every year to celebrate her birthday. Gina also enjoyed sports as she played both hockey and basketball. She especially liked family gatherings, camping and brandings at Solway Ranches. Gina grew up around livestock and even got her own horse brand at age eleven. Her charming laughter and smile will be missed.

Gina is survived by her mother Pam Solway and father Shane Yellow Fly, her second mom Lou Ann Solway, and her special brother Emmitt Many Heads. Her adopted siblings Tavell, Zane and Zia. Her close cousins Naomi and Bradin. Her special friend Brodie Sunwalk. Her grandmothers Georgina Solway and Marion Yellow Fly, her great grandfather Noel Yellow Fly.  Her uncles Joseph, Cedric (Leonda), Ike (Susan), Tim (Glennis), Kirk. Her aunts Melvina (Alfred) Marsha (Howard), Irene, Alemna, Tammy (Levi), Lyiah (Mark), Twyla, Holly (Drew) and Jamie (Shane). Her cousins; Kayci, Teague, Nerik, Nolan, Kariya, Bella, Sophia, Dolan, Shawnelle, Kirshina, Darris, Keyvan, Trevor, Tyler, Kelsey, Jacey, Adam, Blaine, Alexander, Emmitt, Liam, Riley, Jewel, Meela, Colt and Tayanna. Her dog Spuddy and cat Shadow. Gina is predeceased by her maternal grandfather Melvin Solway, paternal grandfather Daniel Bear Hat, great grandmother Marina Yellow Fly, great grandparents Adam & Rosie Solway, George & Laura Leather, Gilbert & Violet Bear Hat. Gina also leaves behind her family of Solways, Breakers, Soops, Medicine Shields, Leathers, Good Eagles, Yellow Flys, Cutters, Two Horns, Bear Hats, and Wolf Collars. Relatives in the USA/Canada the Salois, Gordo and Rita Horn, and the Cold Lake Solloway Families.

Wake Service will be held at the residence of Pamela Solway on June 15, 2020 at 3:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on June 16, 2020 at 1:00 pm at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Siksika Nation. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the funeral service will be invitation only. The family would like to thank Siksika Crisis Unit, Gleichen RCMP and extended relatives and Siksika Nation that provided family support during this difficult time.
