George Albert Koza was born Aug 7th, 1936 and passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 89 years on April 23rd, 2026. George was born to John and Anna Koza and lived in Tilley then moved to Calgary for only 5 years then moved back to Tilley in 1946 and worked on the farm beside his folks and sister Lillian. He had 2 brothers that served in the war, Johnny who was a pilot and was shot down and Steve who was a Marine. George met his wife Janice at a dance in Duchess in 1956. They married in 1958 and began their journey together building a farm from scratch. They started their family by raising 4 children Barry Koza, Pam Levie (Dean), Peggy Cockerill (Chris) and Debbie Sharpe. They had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. George and Janice farmed for 12 yrs. then sold it, and on September 15, 1972 bought a house in Brooks where they resided for 54 years. Dad worked at Bowslope Shipping for 28 years and in the last 6 of those years he was the manager. Prior to that he not only worked there, he also blood tested for the federal government. He then retired for a short time and was approached by Mr. Martin to see if he would be interested to come manage Brooks Feeders Association so he gave it a whirl and was there for 23 years. Dad was a man that if he gave you his word he would honor it. He was a pillar of the community and he was a mentor to many in the cattle industry. He also coached numerous sports. He coached baseball starting off in 1976 coaching the junior all Star team, then the women's Tel Star and kids baseball then slow pitch with the Bowslope team. Dad participated in organizing and supporting the 1992 Alberta Senior Games. George, Janice and family were members of the Trinity Lutheran Church since 1991. Dad joined a curling league and he enjoyed it very much. He was an official in the Cactus Pheasant Classic world curling. In the Summer months he played his fair share of golf whether it was with Mom or his Men's league, another sport he enjoyed with friends and family. Dad organized many events including the Cattlemen's bonspiel which was the biggest calculated being 130,000.00. The Cattlemen's golfing tournaments for many years and spent many hours on all of these events, Dad was a very humble man! George was predeceased by his wife Janice in which they were married for 64 years his grandson Devin Cockerill, his great grandson Ezekiel Stephan, his parents John and Anna Koza, brothers Johnny and Steve Koza and sister Lillian Chopik.
