Obituary

Gary was born at Holy Cross Hospital, Calgary, Alberta, to his parents, late Delphine Marie (Low Horn) Starlight and late Henry Bartlett.  Gary passed away in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia on September 18, 2022.

Gary grew up in the city of Calgary, Enderby, B.C. (adopted traditionally by an indigenous family), Piikunii, Siksika, Eden Valley (adopted by Lefthand family), Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.  Gary was gentle-spirited, kind, compassionate, and had a lot of respect for his elders and his family whom he really loved each and everyone one of them.  Gary grew up with his close cousins Tara, Denise, Tamara, and Michelle, alongside his sisters late Cheryl and Crystal.  He was very close to his grandma Noella and his aunts and uncles on his mom’s side.  He was very traditional in his dancing and way of life; he did a lot of beading, tanning hides, and making native dance outfits for both males and females. 

Gary worked on various employment and the latest was with Eden Valley Child Welfare Office, where he really got to be close to his co-workers.

Gary leaves to mourn are Sisters – Crystal Low Horn, Holly & Dawn Starlight; brothers – Sterling & Dylan Starlight; nieces – Ramona, Grace, Cheryl, Shiloh, Violet; nephews – Ty, Marcus, Marvin Jr., Wyatt & Tanner; great-nieces/nephews – Aryanna, Selena, Kiya, Saige, Malena, Mia, Kaya, Elliott, Sage, baby girl LH, Noella, Wyatt; maternal aunts, Theresa (Frank Stevens): Grace Young-Low Horn and Yvonne Low Horn; Rachel Low Horn-First Rider, great-aunts Christine Little Chief, Jean Eagle Child, and Linda Little Chief; Step-dad Dale Prairie Chicken.

Gary came from a very big family on his mother’s immediate side:  Low Horn, Cutter, Little Chief, Spring Chiefs, Wolf Legs, Stabbed Last, and Bull Bear.  There are numerous other Siksika relatives, also from Kainai, Piikunii, Maskwacis, and the State of Montana.  Gary’s Clan Family is Eagle Rib and Hind Bull.  The family apologizes for anybody we miss.

Gary was predeceased by: Mother, Delphine; father, Henry; sister Cheryl; niece Maggie; Maternal Grandparents, Noella (Little Chief) & Henry Low Horn; Aunties: Yvonne White, Henrietta, Rosemarie, and Alexis Jeannie Low Horn; uncles: Sam, Melvin, Elliot, and Joey Low Horn; and numerous Great Aunts/Uncles and cousins.
