Franklin (Jim) Mchugh Obituary

Mchugh Franklin (Jim) James Mchugh “Iinipooka” (Buffalo Child) of Siksika Nation, beloved husband of Adeline passed away after a lengthily battle with cancer at 2:48am on March 14, 2025 at Bassano hospital surrounded by his loving family; his wife, children and sisters in law Florene Running Rabbit and Theresa Big Eye. Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years Adeline Storm and together they have four children Jamielee, Lindsey James, Andrew (Amanda) and Megan; grandchildren, Teylin, Keyonna, JoJo, Kaitlyn, Aubrey, Buddy, and Jaaron and great grandchild Jaymen Medicine Shield. He Also leaves behind his older children Clint McHugh, Tracey McHugh, Andrea McHugh and Bobby McHugh; brothers Randy (Lorraine) McHugh, Andy (Lorraine) Onespot; uncle Leonard (Ann Marie) Good Eagle; special nephews John (Andrea) McHugh, & Chris McHugh as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many traditional adopted children; he loved everyone dearly. Jim was a strong believer in his cultural and traditional way of life and was initiated into the Prairie Chicken Society at a young age and later became part of the Horn Society. Jim was well respected and often called upon for his advice. Jim & Adeline travelled to various nations to take part in holy gatherings with follow members Over the course of Jim’s life, he achieved many great accomplishments. Jim has ranched most of his life and was an avid Farmer. He graduated with his certificate in Agriculture Consultation from Olds College. He was an elder advisor for Siksika Nation Agriculture as a board member and Traditional Land Use consultation for 20+ years. Jim inspired many young people by giving advise and lending a helping hand. Not only was Jim an exceptionally hard worker, he was an upstanding member of the community and would help anyone who needed assistance, whether it was gas, groceries or just a simple conversation. Jim was predeceased by his mother (Betty) McHugh, his Grandparents Clarence & Victoria McHugh (that raised him), brothers Clarence McHugh Jr, Buddy McHugh, Ronald McHugh, John McHugh Sisters Lottie (Arthur) One spot, Marie (Francis) Crow Shoe, Carol McHugh, Shirley McHugh and Lillian Lightning. The family would like to acknowledge and give a special thanks to his nurses Darby Malone, Tessa Jones and the doctors and nurses from Bassano Hospital and Aurther Child Cancer Centre for all their support through Jim’s courageous battle Including Siksika home care and family support Florene Running Rabbit, Teresa Big Eye, Lorraine Onespot and Lorraine McHugh. Also, family and friends that donated food and numerous visits and support through out his courageous battle with cancer. We would also like to acknowledge extended families McHugh, Crowshoe, Good Eagle, Onespot, Buffalo, Gottfriedson, Munro, Cutter, Lightning, Low Horn, Two Horn, Bigplume, Whitney, Big Snake, Breaker, Red Crow and Starlight.
