Floyd Good Eagle (SINOPA) February 16, 1951 – February 18, 2023

With great sadness and heartbreak, we announce the passing of the Good Eagle family Patriarch, Floyd Good Eagle (Sinopa). He left this world peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the age of 72 years.

He was born and raised on the Siksika Nation, where he attended the Crowfoot Residential School. Thereafter, assisted his dad Paulus (Head Stockman) with the Siksika Ranch. He later worked as ranch hand for Grant Klaiber, then drove bus for Siksika Nation, and assisted Many Heads farms seasonally. Floyd was a Supervisor for Security at the Tribal Administration, and in his later years, was a Driver for Siksika Family Services, an important and cherished role he enjoyed. He was a Board Member for the Health Board representing Siksika Nation, as well as a previous Board Member of the Blackfoot Rodeo Ag Society. He was a proud member of the Brave Dogs Society (Kanatsoomitah), of which was passed down from his dad Paulus. Floyd previously received training to become a Deacon, and although did not serve as a Deacon for Siksika Nation, he represented Siksika Nation in his service as Chairman for the Parish Council, a role close to his heart, as he has a great love for the Lord, and walked with him daily. We know he has found his place in paradise.

Floyd was well known as a kind-hearted and humorous person. With a strong work ethic, and deep love for his family and friends, of whom he encouraged in their educational pursuits and giving guidance. His passion was Bull riding, of which he rode in many rodeos all over Alberta. He later was President of the Sandhills Rodeo Club, established in 2012 by the family. Rodeos were held yearly at the family rodeo grounds in Southcamp, Siksika Nation. Floyd enjoyed spending time tending to his Ranch and loved his horses and his furry friend Harry. Floyd had a strong presence about him, and you always felt safe in his care. Floyd and Violet were proud foster parents since the mid 1970’s, fostering many children over the years. Floyd was friend, Uncle Floyd, and Grampa Floyd to many.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Violet. His children Grant (Dee), LJ (Sarah), Candice and Tina. Also, whom he took as a son, Roy. His grandchildren Dorian, Adri, Shawntia, Austin, Strawberry, Tanner, Felix, Landon, and Brooklyn. His brother Cyril and sister Loretta Good Eagle, Sister-In-Laws Colleen Good Eagle and June Spotted Eagle, Goddaughter MJ Big Eye. Nieces: Carol, Mavis, Elaine, Jillian, Cecile (Horton), Lisa, Rose (Blaine), Jackie (Cory), Nephews: Leroy (Marsha), Art, Ivan (Lorraine), and many great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Also, by his special friend Harlon Big Eye, of whom he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and watching hockey with, cheering on his beloved Flames, as well as his friends the Big Eye family. Floyd was predeceased by his sons Floyd Jr. and Shawn, his parents Paulus and Gertrude Good Eagle, sisters Theresa and Hazel, brothers Cecil, James, Ralph, Amos, Phillip, and Michael; nieces: Peggy, Laverna, Gertrude, and Debbie; nephews: Matthew, Gil, and Shane; great-nephews Elroy, Waylon, Horton Jr. and great-niece Stacey. Floyd will be greatly missed. The family apologizes if we missed anyone.

Wake Services will be held at the One Gun Hall, Siksika Nation, on Thursday, February 23, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 12:00 midnight. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Siksika Nation, on Friday, February 24, at 11:00 am with Father Gary Laboucane. Graveside service to follow at the Crowfoot Cemetery, Siksika Nation.
