Evelyn Jean (Keeling) Soderquist
June 7, 1936 – May 20, 2025
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Jean Soderquist, who passed away on May 20, 2025, at the age of 88.
After a long and courageous journey with dementia and a brief battle with cancer, Jean is finally at peace.
She has joined her loved ones who went before her: her husband Allan, her parents Velma and Stan, her sister Virginia, her brothers-in-law Mel and Ron, and her nephew Billy.
Jean was born in Bassano, Alberta, on June 7, 1936. As the eldest of seven children, she naturally took on the role of caregiver — a quality that defined her throughout her life. She had a deep love for children and an eye for beauty, which led her to a career in television in Lethbridge, a creative pursuit in colouring black and white photographs, and a lifelong passion for music. In Red Deer, she found joy working at a music store, where her love of music truly shone and her gift for remembering songs and artists was well known. She loved programming jukeboxes and could recall almost every title she loaded. Jean was also known for her green thumb and love of gardening. Her gardens were a testament to her nurturing spirit and her deep connection to nature.
Her most cherished role, however, was that of wife and mother. Jean poured her heart into raising her children and caring for her family. Her quiet strength, gentle nature, and warm smile left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Though she was a private person, her generosity and kindness touched many — she gave freely, even when she had little.
She will be deeply missed by her loving children, Eric and Jodi (Mike); her grandchildren, Dawson and Summer; her sisters Val, Donna (Bill), and Myrna; her brothers Ed (Marg) and Stan (Roberta); and many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
Jean leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and quiet grace — all anchored by an unyielding strength that defined her life and inspired those around her. She will be forever remembered and deeply missed.
We will gather to celebrate Jean’s life later this summer. Details will be shared when available.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to STARS Air Ambulance — a charity close to Jean’s heart.
