It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and dear friend, Eugene (Gino) Bear Chief. Gino passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Calgary, AB. He will be greatly missed by his siblings, Gerald, Cheryl (Lee), Misty, and Robert (Candace); his nephews and nieces, Christian (Jewel), Mike (Stella), Corrine, Valene (Simon), Colton, Jazzlyn (Travis), Jody, Ebony (James), Jodi (Lee), Jackie, Kristy (Hollis), Brett, Sheridan, Tina, and Jeri. He had numerous great nephews and nieces whom he loved and cherished very deeply. Gino had many aunties, uncles, cousins, and friends in Siksika, Gleichen and in Calgary that he loved visiting and catching up with. Gino, as he preferred to be called and as many knew him by, was a kind, generous, compassionate, humble man who was known for his charming, intelligent, smart, witty humor and his infectious laugh. He was impeccably clean and neat, an amazing cook, an eloquent speaker, and did his best to love his family & friends while living with immense grief, especially the last 10 years and 9 months since his mom passed. His grief was so immense he couldn’t return to live in Siksika. And even though his apartment was near Chinook Mall, he would spend his days hanging out at “Siksika’s malls”, Sunridge and Marlborough, as that was where he was most likely to run into someone from home that he could visit with. That’s all he ever wanted, a connection to his loved ones. Thank you to everyone who helped him with food or funds, but most especially with your time, in your visits within those malls and anywhere else you may have encountered Gino. Gino was predeceased by his grandparents Mark & Louise Spring Chief, Walker & Martha Bear Chief, his parents Francis & Marilyn Bear Chief, his brothers Cutie Pie, Stuart, and Dale Bear Chief, and his loving nephew Cash Bear Chief. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins on maternal & paternal sides of his families.
A one day service will begin with viewing & refreshments at 9:30am at the Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbor in Siksika Nation on Thursday, December 15th, 2022 until presiding begins at 1pm. Burial to follow at Paul Little Walker Cemetery. In loving memory of Gino, the family requests donations of men’s and women’s winter gear, personal hygiene items, or blankets to be donated to the Bear Clan Patrol. His friends he helped with shelter and warmth are still out there.
