It is with sadness we share the news of our mother Elizabeth Wipf passing away peacefully after a five-day hospitalization in Brooks on January 29, 2022. We are comforted knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior. Elizabeth just celebrated her 90th birthday on January 6, 2022. She was raised in Bridgewater, South Dakota on a family homestead with her parents, 2 sisters, and 5 brothers.
As her career was beginning as a school teacher, Mom was sidetracked by a young man David Wipf of Stirling, Alberta. After capturing her heart, they were married in Stirling Alberta in 1954 and made their home there. They moved in 1961 to Duchess. Elizabeth was a hard worker. While raising 5 children, Mom drove a school bus for 19 years and also was the janitor at the Duchess School. Mom loved to bake and was a fabulous cook, sharing many a meal with people around her table. Over the years she used her sewing talents to contribute often to the Duchess Mennonite Church ladies sewing circle. Mom’s heart for missionaries and the work of MCC was evident through many years. Her faith carried her through many of life’s challenges. Mom was known for her dedication to prayer, especially for her family. In 2009, Mom and Dad moved to a condo in Brooks when Dad’s health began to fail due to ALS. After Dad passed away in 2010, Mom moved to Orchard Manor. Only recently she moved into Sunrise Gardens. The family is grateful to the caregivers, both at Orchard Manor and Sunrise Gardens for their compassionate care. We are also grateful to Dr. Grobelaar and to Dr. Coetzee for their professional care of our mother.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband David. She leaves to mourn, her children Charlotte (Bill) Plumer, MaryAnne (Bruce) McKellar, Kathy (Armand) Ramer, Brenda (Rudy) Martens, and Calvin (Raeann) Wipf, 15 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
A service will be held in Duchess, Alberta by invitation due to restrictions. We invite you to live stream the funeral on Saturday, Feb 5, 2022 at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in her honor:
