With extremely broken hearts, we are saddened to announce the passing of our Matriarch, PIIKSAKI (Bird Woman) Donna Little Light (Big Old Man) on August 1st, 2025.
Donna was born at the Blackfoot hospital, Siksika Nation, on January 10th, 1943. Donna attended the Old Sun Residential School.
Donna was known for her strong work ethic and compassionate spirit. She began her career at the Siksika Shelter, where she provided comfort and support to those in need. Later, she extended her care to the Siksika Elders Lodge, ensuring the well-being and comfort of the community’s respected elders. However, the majority of Donna’s working years were spent at the Chief Old Sun School, where she served as a custodian. In this role, she took immense pride in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment for the students and staff, becoming a familiar and cherished face in the school community.
Donna’s commitment to her work was matched by her love for her family and her deep connection to Siksika traditions. She will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering dedication, and the positive influence she had on all who knew her.
Donna’s favourite pastimes were playing bingo, watching Family Feud, enjoying family events, going for her daily walks with her brother Gordy, and talking for hours on the phone with numerous family and friends. Getting her back massaged by her granddaughters
