Darcy Heavy Shield (Stimson)    - June 14, 1965 – December 24, 2020

Darcy Heavy Shield (Stimson) of Siksika Nation left us unexpectedly at the age of (55) on Thursday, December 24, 2020 with the LORD JESUS by his side at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB. Darcy was born on June 14, 1965 in Siksika Nation, Alberta. He attended Crowfoot School and Standard School for his education. He met his wife Della (Moran) Heavy Shield 1991 at a Jim Swaggart Crusade in Calgary. Together lived on the Siksika Nation for years established a Street ministry they fed and held services at the Gleichen Legion. Darcy and Della moved to Regina where they continued their ministry and he was employed at the Eagle Heart Center as maintenance for 14 years.  Darcy was a Believer and loved the LORD, led many people to the LORD, he was a good caregiver and a devoted his life to his wife Della, and to his only son Jonah who meant the world to him; Three grandchildren: Connor, Bruce and Chloe. He loved his nieces, nephews, relatives (Sherrie Good Eagle), and friends.

Darcy was a well known business owner DDJ Upholstery and Flooring. Growing up Darcy was a tough young lad who was taught how to defend himself by his Dad and Uncles Colin, Ralph, Roy & Dickie. He was known as a “rink rat” he then graduated to play with Siksika Blackfoot Minors, which he excelled in; his favorite spectator was Grandpa KooKii. Darcy took great pride in his calling and gift from our LORD to play guitar and to sing Gospel songs where he was well known in Canada and United States and played along side great gospel musicians. Special mention to son Jonah, whom he loved played together all over the USA and Jonah grew up to be his drummer. His friend and Pastor Christopher Wesaquate who was a big encouragement, Darcy was part of the Worship Team at his church.  

Darcy touched many lives and will be remembered for his humble life, his smile and hand shake, greeted you with a joke, great sense of humor, his kindness, gentle nature, Darcy always willing to give a helping hand to those in need. He lived by Siksika traditions and spoke Blackfoot language fluently. Darcy taught others to accept, love and serve the LORD, have endurance, compassion, integrity and never to forget where you came from. He had many friends and relatives from Treaties 7, & 8 areas include Blackfeet Nation (USA).  Darcy made sure to visit his friends and relatives when he comes down from Regina, Sask.

Darcy is survived by his wife Della and son Jonah(Erin) Heavy Shield, Three Grandchildren: Connor, Bruce, Chloe; Numerous In-Laws, Four step children, Sister: Koren Calf Child; Half Sisters: June, April White Eagle; Half Brothers: Clifford, Donnie, Kevin.  Adopted Dad: Pastor Robert Nomee; Adopted sister: Felisha Nomee. Respected Sisters: Shiela Starr, Maria Stimson; Bro: Dan Stimson. Spiritual Parents/Sisters: Alec and Bernice, Sandra, Arlene, Ann and, Ada Hunt. Relatives: Raw Eaters, Axe, Brass, Back Fat, Tail Feathers, Cayenne, Bull Bear, Doore, Turning Robe, Black Horse, Spotted Eagle, AYoungMan, Red Crow, Pretty Youngman, McMaster, Crowfoot, Water Chief, Weasel Child, Three Suns, Wolf Leg, Wolf Ear, Wright, Maguire, and Breaker.

Darcy was predeceased by his loving Parents: Bruce Alone Liston Shield (Stimson) and Florence Calf Child (Cayenne). His twins: Micah and Malachi. Sisters: Arlene, Judy Royal, Loreen, Brenda. Grand Parents: Edward Connor and Doris (Raw Eater), Great Grandparents: John and Millie Raw Eater and Albert Stimson (Spotted Eagle), numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Family Time will be held at Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour at 10:00am on Saturday January 2, 2021. Funeral Services will be held at Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbour on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Gravesite Service to follow at Paul Little Walker Cemetery, Siksika Nation, Alberta.

We the family would like to thank all the people who offered words of encouragement and support during our loss of our loved one, Darcy.  A special thank You to the doctors and nurses of the Calgary South Campus, Calgary Foothills Hospital, and Siksika Nation Ambulance. Our beloved Darcy Heavy Shield/Stimson is in heaven now, resting peacefully in the arms of our LORD JESUS!
