Brennan (Chow) Strangling Wolf “MAKOYII STAAPISTA” Obituary

Brennan Emil, 'Chow' Strangling Wolf

Brennan 'Chow' was 38 years old, was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on June 6, 1987. It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family announces the passing of our beloved and cherished son, brother, father, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Creator called Brennan 'Chow' home on July 12, 2025 in Calgary, Alberta.
Chow was incredibly smart and talented, especially when it came to technology, photography, and electronics. He had a gift for understanding how things worked and was always eager to learn more.
He was so close to completing his Grade 12 diploma and was supposed to graduate this year. Chow moved to Calgary hoping for a fresh start and better opportunities, as finding work on Siksika Nation had been difficult. He loved to work whenever he could, always taking pride in doing his best.
Chow also had a passion for cleaning — he would scrub floors, walls, and counters until they shone so bright you could see your reflection. We used to laugh because we couldn’t step into our mom’s house or anywhere else until he had made it perfectly “spic and span.”
More than anything, Chow loved his kids with all his heart. He was proud of them and talked about them often.
Chow had a wonderful sense of humor that made everyone around him laugh. He had so many friends because he was kind, friendly, and easy to be around.
As a child, Chow dreamed of becoming a country singer. As he grew older, his love for music turned to rap. He even had his own lyric book that he would write in downstairs at our parents’ house — creating songs that told his story.
Chow will be remembered for his bright spirit, his laughter, his love for his children, and his dreams. He touched so many lives, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Chow loved his mom, his brothers, and his sister, as well as all of his nieces, nephews, and cousins. He cherished every single relationship he had with them. The memories he created with his siblings growing up — like getting into trouble, getting hurt, or being the one we could go to when we needed help with our electronic gadgets or devices — will always be remembered. Chow was always there to lend a hand, whether it was helping us clean, fixing something, or simply listening when we were struggling. We will never forget how we all came together when we lost our father, and how Chow’s strength and love held us close. The special bond he shared with his nieces, nephews, and many cousins will forever be treasured.
Brennan 'Chow' was the son of the late Chris Jr. Strangling Wolf. He leaves to mourn, his beloved mother, Colleen Strangling Wolf; siblings, Philip, Shannan (Baby Susie), Timothy Strangling Wolf, John Rory Loftus, Tanya Scalplock, and Shay Lickers. Chow loved and cherished his children, Elsa, Izzy, and Maliki; his nieces, Paigey, Tayla, Zyia and Jordan; and nephews, Omar, Trayton, and Georgey. Cousins are too many to name.
Brennan 'Chow' is also survived by his Great Aunt Liz Scout, and his two living aunties, Donna Strangling Wolf and Jackie (Kelly) SpringChief; and Uncles, Francis & Peter Strangling Wolf.

He was Predeceased by the late Philip Chris Sr. and Susan Strangling Wolf; Woody, Kimmy, Sharon Strangling Wolf, Theresa Goodrider, Hughie Knowlton, Brenda, and Annette Northpeigan.

But he will be remembered by the extended families from near and far, from Siksika: the Strangling Wolf, Turning Robe, Rabbit Carrier, Munro, Loftus, Axe, Medicine Shield, McMaster, Black Rider, Wright, Big Tobacco, Eagle Speaker, and Maguire families. Also, from down south: Healy's, Knowltons, Northpeigans, Goodriders, Small Eyes, Blackplumes, little leafs, Stripped Squirrel, Willow, Eagle Bear, Many Fingers, Beebe, Scout, Mills, Little Bear, Small Face, Tallows, Plain Eagle, Saddle Back, Buffalo, Brewers, Spear Chiefs, Russel, and Chief Calf families. And last but not least, his relations from across the border in Browning. We the family dearly apologize if we missed any family members or friends.
