It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and friend, Bernice Wolf Child. Bernice was born on November 26, 1942 at the Blackfoot Hospital, Siksika Nation. On May 21, 2023, Bernice was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 80, peacefully surrounded by her family. Bernice was brought up in the Traditional way of life by her grandparents Mildred and Phillip Backfat Sr. In her younger years she participated in powwows, dancing traditional. Once married she continue to travel the powwow trail with her husband, children and grandchildren. Bernice also loved riding horses, and going to rodeos. She worked in the Siksika Daycares, she was a cook with the Old Sun College. She loved to sew and made her own teepee. Bernice and Edward won a rock and roll championship trophy. Bernice and her husband Edward loved kids and were foster parents for 38 years and provided a loving home to many children. She was an active member for the Calgary Stampede Indian Village, which involved managing the teepee by cleaning and cooking, managing the teepee inspection, and was also known to join the meat cutter contests and participating the in the Calgary stampede Parade.

She was survived by her two Aunties Rena Sinclair and Mertle Good eagle. Special cousin Rachel First Rider and Friend Christine Little Chief. Her Children Clara Hardy, Patty WolfChild, Mary (Jerry) Sanderson, Dora WolfChild (Marcel), Smoke (Vivian) WolfChild, Carolla, (Henry) Red Crow, Eddie (Joset) WolfChild, Tony WolfChild, Darryl (Caroline) WolfChild, Tyler (Hope) Young. Her Siblings Rex Backfat,  Julia BackFat, Ronald (Linda) BackFat, Clifton(Debbie) BackFat, Betty (Ron) Hewton, Elliot (Tilley) Backfat, Marie BlackRider. She loved her 32 grand Children, 42 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great great Grand Child. Adopted Children Shirley Hill & Luke White Man, Tobias Provost, Larry White.

She is now reunited with her loving husband Edward Wolf Child Jr, Son Glen Blackhorse and her parents Phillip and Jean BackFat, and her siblings who have gone before her: Ester Simone, Elsie BackFat, Phillip, Phillis BackFat, Aldena Crow Child, Homer Backfat, Katie Backfat, Hilda Red Gun. Bestfriend Georgina Ayoungman.

We would like to acknowledge extended relatives, Bluebirds, Blackriders, Ayoungman, Blacks, Albertine Lowhorn-Blackrider, Turning Robe, McMaster, Sarah Breaker family, Young, White Elk, White, Healy, Many Guns families. We apologize if we have missed anyone.
