Ashley Sleigh Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ashley Dawn Sleigh aka Kayla Ayoungman. Ashley passed away at the St. Paul Hospital in Vancouver, B.C. on February 7, 2025 due to heart complications. She was raised by the late Randy and Lorraine Ayoungman and lived with them on the Siksika Nation. Ashley was a leap year baby born on February 29, 1984. She would be turning 41 years old. We are honoring and celebrating Ashley today on her birthday. Ashley was a caring and loving daughter, sister and niece. In her younger years, she attended Chief Old Sun and the Siksika Nation High School. She was always proud of her Siksika culture. She loved listening to music and especially liked Bob Marley, Eminem, The Weeknd, Aaron Goodvin and countless more. As far as we can remember, she was a huge fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and proudly wore their jersey and hats. She did not mind that she was booed every time they played the Flames. Ashley met the love of her life, Kayne Grant, in Calgary and eventually moved with him to Victoria, BC in the early 2000’s. After a few years there, they moved to Vancouver. Ashley was kind and generous towards others; she liked to help people. She made good friends over there and was happy with her life. Ashley had goals of furthering her education. She had two pets, a dog, Snicklefritz and a cat, Smokey who both meant the world to her. Ashley kept in touch with Lorraine through the years she was away, and with other family members. Ashley is survived by her husband Kayne Grant, her siblings Tommy, Tiger, Tuffy, Tanya (Davis), Randy (Lynn), Jasmene, and Tanis; aunts and uncles Ferris (Daisy), Dwight (Debbie), Marilyn, Adrian (Cheryl), her nieces Halo and Camilla and nephews, Hayden and Liam, as well as numerous cousins. Ashley is also survived by her birth mother, Karen Sleigh, her siblings Agnes and Tannis, uncles Darrell Sleigh, Lee Eagle Rib, and aunt Lori Sleigh, and also numerous relatives. Ashley is reunited with Lorraine and Randy, Jonathan, her brother Ashford Sleigh, her cousin Tommy Stimson, and other close relatives. A celebration of life memorial service for Ashley will take place at the Gordon Yellow Fly Memorial Arbor (Siksika Nation) on Friday, February 28th at 11:00 a.m. followed by a burial service and feast.
