Alfred Dietz Obituary

Dietz, Alfred (Alf) passed away on Monday, February 5, 2024 at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. He was born on August 8, 1947 in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan to Tony and Veronica (Moser) Dietz of Superb, SK., the sixth child out of seven children. In his younger years, Alf loved to curl, play baseball and hockey, as his children became more involved in many activities he enjoyed even more to support and cheer them on, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alf was an avid Toronto Blue Jays baseball fan and tried to never miss a game, he loved to watch the games with his wife Bea.  Alf also enjoyed cheering on the Edmonton Olilers and tried to never miss a curling match on TV.

The fall was one of Alf’s favorite season because it brought on hunting season, a pastime Alf loved to do with his son and grandsons. Alf would hunt elk, moose, and white tail deer. Always the family man he also enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and extended family. Alf was married to the love of his life, his partner, and the other half of his soul Beatric (Cotton) Dietz for over 55 years. They were married May 4, 1968 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brooks Alberta and they had 3 children, nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, for now! Eldest daughter Lorraine( Rex Porath) of Jefferson, South Dakota, and their children;  Heather (Jeff Adam) and their son Colton, Brittni ( Raf Herrera) and the son Apollo, Meghan Porath and Katelyn Porath. A second daughter Taraly Dietz of Bassano Ab, and her children; Shellbea ( Stephan Woods) and their children Addison and Scott, and Kayden with his fiance Mariah. Youngest child Shane (Kim)Dietz of Frobisher SK and their children; Dakota, Taylor and her daughter Riley,  and Kayla ( Eric Klussen) and their daughters Oaklynn and Sadie.

He was the owner and operator of Easy Way Oilfield Maintenance until his health forced him to move on to a less labor-intensive job. He operated farm equipment and implements for Bassano Growers where he became great friends with Tiosh Hironaka and later drove a Potato Truck for Tiosh and Bassano Growers. These were the jobs Alf most enjoyed. His amazing sense of humor and ease with people made him a favorite with his customers as the night shift cab driver for City Cab in Brooks, Alberta.  Although his health was not the best his active mind and quick wit were always on point and his smile and laugh were always strong. The family would like to send a very special thank you to the following people and organizations; Brooks Paramedics, for always taking amazing care of Alf and prioritizing his comfort and care, Brooks Home Care, who took impeccable care of Alf; he loved his “tub bath” as they treated him with such love and kindness. Big shout out to Ken Hironaka, for being so kindhearted and honorable and our neighbors who are beautiful, kind, caring, and thoughtful and who never failed to “check in” on Alf and Bea. Numerous friends and family members for their love and kindness for many years. Amazing care provided by the Medicine Hat Hospital, Medical teams, and wards.  Donations can be made to Brooks Paramedics, and Brooks Home Care in the name of Alfred Dietz. We, Alf’s family have such appreciation for these teams who worked like guardian angels for Alf.
